John Smulo has lived on 3 continents and builds companies from Manila. He founded Purple Cow Agency in California in 2008. Today it is an outsourcing company with offices in the Philippines that provides full time staff and AI systems for businesses. He speaks on AI and marketing.

Born in Los Angeles, John lived in Australia for 10 years before returning to California. In 2020 he moved to the Philippines. He now lives in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Manila.

Since the move, he has built California Expat, a media and education company for people who want to live in the Philippines. Every Wednesday he hosts Bridgehouse, a dinner in BGC and Cebu City for people building a life in the Philippines.

John has taught college courses in Australia and California, and he has been a guest lecturer in marketing and business at universities in the United States. He was also a consultant for 3 Small Business Development Centers in California. Most recently, he taught at Saint Mutien College in the Philippines.

In May 2026 he received the Pusong Pinoy Award from the Benita and Catalino Yap Foundation. He has been interviewed on television and radio in the Philippines.
